Introduction

Hello! Reggie Dawes here. Are you a beginner? I want to present everything you need to know to raise baby Angelfish. I've developed and illustrated a spawning fixture, a brine shrimp hatchery, and an egg counting grid that could also interest experienced breeders.

This is not the only way... but the techniques described here do work. Selected Web links describe different techniques, along with general and in-depth information useful to Angelfish fanciers and breeders.

Katrina took eight of my nine tanks and all my supplies, which were stored in my wash shed. Now I have five mature German Blue Blushers. Handsome fish. Next time I'll stock a large tank with sturdy Silvers. My breeding days may be over. I once had 200 gallons in 9 tanks, and sold  juvenile Silver and Gold Angels, adults, breeding size and pairs.  My Kois, Blacks and German Blue Blushers didn't do well. The Kois and Blacks were too mean, and the Blues were not strong or fecund.

Why this FAQ?

Click to see LARGE German Blue Blusher!I think Angelfish are beautiful, good company, and fun to breed. I'd like more people to keep and breed them, for their enjoyment and to share in the improvement of the species. I also like to design attractive and useful Web pages. See a colorpro.com services commercial here: colorpro.com/designs/.

Steven Dow, in his 1976 book on raising angelfish wrote: "...the pride of achievement in producing living beautiful creatures that will give others pleasure inspires a rare sense of achievement seldom possible in today's world. In this way, the primal farmer in all of us can be satisfied in a manner that is both highly interesting and profitable."

Organization of the ABFAQ

We have started the ABFAQ over again from scratch about 5 times in six years. This version includes metric measurements and much new information. We have created a list of resources where you can get help.  The complete FAQ for printing allows printing the whole FAQ (without some guest comments and pictures) for off-line study. I do ask that you pay $5 (or whatever) if you choose to print the FAQ... makes a great gift for a young breeder or any aquarist who isn't wired.

QUESTIONS WILL BE DELETED!

If you have a question, use the Angelfish Web Forum  at www.awforum.net/angelfish. First, you need to learn to use the archives: I describe a search of the older Angels Forum Archive for "fry dying" that gets 132 messages, see this page for details! These Forums are associated with The Angelfish Society, www.aquaworldnet.org/tas. Lots of great information... and a free 'genetics calculator' there, too.

QUESTIONS

If you want ME to answer your question, please agree to using PayPal or by mail. The cost of a single fish would be nice, like $5, if you think it's worth it. If it requires a lot of work on my part, I'll ask for more. Please include all appropriate information in your question: your pair, their age, the variety, your water, water treatment, filtration, temperatures, hardness, foods, tank sizes, etc. Send to Questions@angelfish.info.

If you find any errors or misleading information in this FAQ, or can improve it in any way, write to Reggie Dawes (email Reggie here.) Please paste in an exact page URL (address) to help me find the location!
